SolarWinds User Device Tracker Now Enables Network Admins to Find Both Devices and Their Users
User Device Tracker Adds Active Directory Support to Connect Network Device Data to User Account Data Creating a More Complete Picture of Endpoints on the Network
January 19, 2012 --
AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 01/19/12 -- SolarWinds® Inc. (NYSE: SWI), a leading provider of powerful and affordable IT management software, has released User Device Tracker (UDT) 2.0, a product for tracking where users or computers are connected to the network and switch port management. Network administrators have long had the ability to track existing connections with switch port mapping tools. The growth of new devices in the workplace, along with shared and public endpoints, has made it difficult to connect to both historical endpoint data and user information.

With UDT, these additional data sets can help network administrators identify devices and users responsible for malicious behavior on the network, as well as simply aid users in finding lost devices.
"SolarWinds product managers spend a lot of time talking directly with customers on thwack, our community of over 80,000 IT professionals," said Sanjay Castelino, VP of product marketing for SolarWinds. "This open line of communication allows us to quickly build new products, and update existing products, based on what we are hearing from them."
UDT 2.0 updates include:
- Support for collecting user information from Active Directory, allowing customers to quickly see who is logged in to a specific machine and to what port the machine and user are connected
- User and endpoint detail pages that provide more information about specific endpoints and users
- Improved back-end topology using CDP and LLDP to better determine network connection information
- Seven new reports including endpoints by VLAN, all endpoints with details, port capacity by switch, number of connected devices by port, all IPv6 addresses in the network, OUI summary report, and an unused port report
- Alert for when a new device is connected to the network
SolarWinds Customer Feedback on thwack:
"Really glad you guys have added an alert for a new device being connected to the network; this will really enhance UDT in my eyes," said customer and thwack user justinp.
